Learn the magic of transforming wool into your very own yarn—no experience needed! In this hands-on class, you’ll explore the fundamentals of spinning, including twist and twist direction, drafting, the park-and-draft method, and the suspended spindle technique. Once you’ve spun your first singles, you’ll learn how to wind a center-pull ball and use it to ply your yarn into a finished, usable skein. All of this is done with a simple, elegant tool: the drop spindle. Each participant will receive a handcrafted wooden spindle and two ounces of wool, yours to keep to continue spinning at home.
Ann McCool
Ann of Apple Creek Farm is a fiber artist and toolmaker specializing in historically inspired spinning. She hand turns spindles and distaffs based on traditional forms, and works across the full fiber process, from raw fleece to finished textile.
Her work is rooted in hands-on study of historical tools and techniques, which she brings into her teaching with both patience and enthusiasm. Through live demonstrations and guided instruction, she helps students understand not just how to spin, but how spinning fits into daily life across time.
She regularly teaches beginner and advanced spinning classes, creating a welcoming environment for new spinners and those looking to deepen their skills.
